Last Post, Loved Ones

It’s my last night in Berlin, and here I am, once again, trying to fill you all in on the details.

Unfortunately, the days have become somewhat of a blur.

I think Monday, after visiting the Resistance Memorial, I had a lot of free time.  Yes, that’s right… I ended up reading in my room and talking to Pablo when he came in.  He had tried to go to all the museums, but so many of them were closed, so I suggested he visit Tacheles, that art place I told you all about.

When he got back, he seemed very impressed and when I told him they wanted to shut it down, he shook  his head and said “Impossible.”

Hopefully he’s right.

Later that night, he, Diana and I joined up in the bar to hang out and chat.  Lindsey had gone off to a wine bar with some Americans from Chicago.  We were going to go out dancing, but, big surprise, that fell through.  I wasn’t too upset though, because I happened to be sleepy.

Thanks to Hope, I laughed myself to sleep, and I know Pablo was laughing, too.  She kept snoring and wheezing.

Pablo left the next morning, but before he left, he told me to get up because I didn’t know how much longer I would be in Berlin and that I could sleep all I wanted at home.

So as soon as he left, I hopped out of bed, showered, got breakfast, and trekked alone through the city, shopping for gifts and taking in the sights.  It gave me a lot of time to think about a lot of things, especially about how much I would miss Berlin and the edginess it stirred up inside of me.

I walked from about 11 am until 6 pm, then I conked out for a few hours.  Afterward…well gosh, I can’t remember what I did afterward.

But today we went on another 6-hour tour with a really great tour guide named David, who showed us around Potsdam.  We saw two palaces (though one looked more like an oversized country house with a Soviet star in the middle) and a nice church and lots of gardens.  Wait till you see the pictures!

Then we got back to the hostel, packed, and went to dinner at the Circus Hotel across the street, where we had a great filmed discussion on what we’ve learned on the trip thus far.

When we got back, we went to the bar for a little while where they’re having Karaoke Night again, but, once again, the girls decided bed was preferable to a final night of fun in Europe, so here I am, writing to you and waiting to come back again.

I hope you’ve been able to somewhat enjoy reading about my adventures in Berlin as much as I’ve enjoyed having them.  I’ll be sure to post some pictures as soon as I get home.

Bis bald!
